How to Read These Estimates
Both calculators give a range, not a price. That is deliberate. Two trees the same height can differ by a thousand dollars depending on what is underneath them, and no honest quote comes from a form alone.
Use the range to sanity-check a quote you already have, or to work out whether a job is a few hundred dollars or a few thousand before you commit to anything.
What Actually Moves the Price
- Access. The single biggest factor. A tree a truck can reach costs a fraction of one that has to be rigged down piece by piece over a pool cage.
- What is underneath. Roofs, fences, power lines, screen enclosures and irrigation all mean slower, more careful work.
- Species and condition. A dead, brittle tree is more dangerous and often more expensive than a healthy one the same size.
- Debris volume. A broad canopy generates far more material to chip and haul than the trunk height suggests.
- Permits. Some cities and HOAs require approval before removal, which adds time rather than much cost.
What the Estimate Already Includes
Our ranges assume the full job: taking the tree down, chipping and hauling the debris, and leaving the site clean. Cleanup is not a line item we add later. Stump grinding is quoted separately, because taking a tree down and taking the stump out use different equipment — see stump grinding for what that involves.
